Good day All
I recently purchased a Vw t cross 1.0tsi 5 speed manual, I am really enjoying the car but I noticed that driving at 120kph the rpm is at about 3200 or so, what I want to find out, driving at that speed/rpm for long distance, won’t it wear the internals down faster ? The polo would be the same, would just like to hear others opinions. I see in Europe they come out in the 6 speed manual I’m sure it would be better (lower cruising rpm)with a that extra gear… I know the dsg is a 7 speed but the rpm is lower at 120kph why would vw not make the rpm similar ?
Thank you
Vw t cross rpm

Re: Vw t cross rpm
A little 1.0L engine will have a hard life with long gear ratios. So will the clutch.
Generally small engines were made for city driving, on any given vehicle, speed should be fluctuated when driving long distances.
While we may only worry about rpm and fuel consumption, manufacturers have much more to worry about, like weight of the vehicle, emissions, life of other parts other than the engine, response, etc.
Internal wear wise, not necessarily. 3200rpm is about half of max rpm. Most engines with proper service intervals & parts should last a long while however some engines are just made kak.
I can imagine what a disaster a 1.0L with weak Conrods and cranks attempting to make torque at a low rpm would be.

When a car tailgates me, i slow down - then floor it and give them a cloud of diesel smoke to choke on
