No clutch
Hi guyz
In abit of a situation here
My bro's CTi clutch was riding so decided to do the clutch on the car.
Fitted a sachs 210mm clutch and pressure plate, push rod and releaser bearing aswell.
Problem now is that there is very little or no clutch at all.
We adjusted the cable upwards and down but still nothing, plus you can't get any gear when idling, and if you force it, it will go but although the clutch is still in, the car will just move forward.
Don't know what else to check up, any info will be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: No clutch
Had the same problem. Had to put a new pressure plate in. The brand new one was buggered already.

Re: No clutch
I was hoping it wouldn't mean dropping the box again. Oh well
also forgot to mention last night after it was fitted, it worked fine but just moved it back and forth , didn't take it for a drive, this morning when I wanted to move it, then this prob started

Re: No clutch
Is the push rod length correct?
4 speed is shorter than the 5 speed
has the cable pulled through the firewall

Re: No clutch
Yup, ffz box measured both rods before fitting them, the firewall already has a harder plate welded, all seems in order there.

Re: No clutch
Sup guys
So dropped the box yesterday and changed the pressure plate (put the old one back) still the same problem.
Really don't know what can be the cause.
Would a low oil level in the box or the cable cause this?
Thankz

Did you fit the release plate the correct way? Is the release bearing still ok?Quik-Trix wrote:Sup guys

Re: No clutch
Yes it is fitted the correct way(assuming release plate and pressure plate is the same thing), I should think there is 1 way only, also it has a specific bolt pattern to line up correctly with the crank, replaced the releaser bearing aswell.

Re: No clutch
No, the release plate (as I call it) is the round plate in the center of the pressure plate that the release rod pushes on.Quik-Trix wrote:Yes it is fitted the correct way(assuming release plate and pressure plate is the same thing), I should think there is 1 way only, also it has a specific bolt pattern to line up correctly with the crank, replaced the releaser bearing aswell.

Re: No clutch
@Macman, yes checked that out and is fine, once we had a problem were the rod made a hole in that plate and didn't have clutch aswell, so we assumed it was that again, but that is fine.
@Vok, it comes all the way with your hand you can pull all the way to the mounting.
So a update, changed the cable, and there was a good amount of clutch, moved the car back and forth, went okay, gears were sticky, so took it for a small drive, changed from 1 into 2 and that's when it got stuck in gear. Tried to pull it out from gear directly from the box, but it won't give in.
Seems like the box is gone?

Re: No clutch
Fortunately, it came out of gear, just rocked it abit, so back to square 1 , no clutch again, but takes all gears when switched off.
@Vokof, What will be the cause if the arm is coming up more than halfway

Re: No clutch
Ok what is happening is that the clutch is not releasing.
There are basically the following causes soem of which you have already confiemd it's not.
1) broken firewall
2) stretched or stuffed cable
3) pedal mount broken so it moves
4) release plate on the pressure plate failed
5) too much wear on the pin
6) incorrect friction plate thickness (unlikely if a good quality new plate)
7) failed pressure plate
failed release bearing
9) incorrect size between the flywheel and pressure plate(happens when you skim a flywheel and the shop doesn't do it tright or does not skim the mounting surface as well
10) clutch arm finger inside the gearbox failing (I have seen a couple).
11) incorrect cable adjustment or cable lenght incorrect or the rubber compress.

Re: No clutch
Thanks panic, that's a long list but will give everything a check again.
Just wanted to know what you refer to in point 5 above...Too much wear on pin? Which pin exactly.
The flywheel was not skimmed and put back, it did have a few burn marks, but taught it will work well.
Also forgot to mention, when I move the car slowly after I put the box back on, the clutch works, as soon as I rev it up and change, it all goes back to no clutch, pedal becomes effortless to push. Noticed this happened twice after we did the clutch.

Re: No clutch
Did u come right?
It sounds like the clutch lever cracked/broken but u can find it when u remove the green cover on the passenger side of the gearbox.
Let someone do the clutch and check what happens. Hope u come right.
That small cheap thing was the last thing we checked.

Point 5 refers to that long oush pin that actaully actuates the clutch.
