Re: Polo Classic Sensor Problems
Tjo robs
That is heavy
do you know (Imight get killed) But my ex car a 1989 bmw e30 325i gave me about 12-13ks per liter long distance and about 8-9 town driving.
the thing that baffels me is the bm has 2 more cylinders its a bigger cc engine / I'm not shure if it is heavier than the polo ( But I know the polo is a heavy body) and that smaller engine gives the same around town .
Oh and the bm is much older technology.
Thanks bud

Re: Polo Classic Sensor Problems
The issue with small engines, heavy car and big wheels it that you are almost always using ALL of the little bit of available power. So it spends most of it's life at Wot or near there hence they tend to be heavy on fuel.
Bigger engined cars driven to the same speed often uses very little of it's power and thus spends a lot of time at partial throttle where they can run fairly lean.
Nothing hard to understand and no need to shoot you

Re: Polo Classic Sensor Problems
Now just a few questions?
Might it be that a AIRfilter can also cause fuel consumtion issues as i have the car from 245000 to 265000ks . I dont know the history . but when i did a service at 260000ks i did not change the AIRFILTER.
Might it be MAP sensor?
I have taken out the newish VW temp Sensor and put the old temp sensor i swaped with a buddy of mine in and it is giving me the same so i dont think its the temp sensor.
What do you guys think?

Re: Polo Classic Sensor Problems
Hey guys
It seems to me the problem I have had a few months back might have started.
Ok so a few months back it was overfueling and so on and I thought it was a sensor.
Just to find it was TIMING
come present day.
If u read up u will see I had concerns that its heavier on fuel etc etc.
now yesterday I found that when cold the revs go to low and cuts the engine (Just like it did a few months ago)/ it also displays a power loss when cold especially below 2000revs the car feels heavy . (This too is symptoms of a few months back)
This morning it did it again. When the car is hot it drives fine.
I will most def have to have a mechanic check the timing again.
but if its the timing again then there is most def something wrong with the engine. Something is moving out of place?
What do you guys think.

Re: Polo Classic Sensor Problems
Hey Hey Guys
SO had the mechy check it out.
The firing timing was retarded so confirms my thoughts. he set it correctly.
it would seem the previous mechy didn't set the distributor correctly but the timing is fine no teeth were out.
now the car feels stronger and pulls nicely even with the 17s
I will have to see the consumption now. but will see the results in a week or two.
Thanks again guys

Re: Polo Classic Sensor Problems
hi guys
ok so 2 weeks later from last post.
Even though the car was pulling stronger wen hot i revved it up abit and i still saw black smoke. was still thinking on gettING IT DIAGNOSED
plus the car would still have the iddling issue . you no brup brup brup brup. not brrrrrrrrrrrrrr.but wen i asked the mechy he said its the throttle body.
ok so the past weekend i drove 60ks long and 60 back . few km's here and there. then it all went south car started loosing power and so forth.
Took it to him today.
He checked timing was 3 teeth out he says the belt was loose. he redid the timing checked the tension and said its all good now. hopefully for good. ( remember he didn't check the timing last time just adjusted distributer timing)
He also said the dizzy had a problem but sorted that too.
they also put the car on diagnostics and cleard all faults . they cleaned the throttle body with carb cleaner as the car was hunting. now thats sorted too.
they said they did something to clear the way the cpu picks up driving styles . Cant remember wats it called .Maybe you guys know?
I then drove it home no black smoke at all when reving and the car pulls fantastic . i wont say its a 2L or v8 or turbo car but hoohoo. even with the 17inch rims if i pull hard in first gear it feels like the car is pulling to the side. feels great.
Now that i look back at the time i had my golf velo. it had more or less the same simptoms but alot less. black smoke and wudnt pull from 1000 to about 1700revs but from there was good. I had branches on that car. I dont think it pulled like this is now. but that was a 1.4i.
If this car stays the way it is now then i'm going to fall inlove with it again.
Makes 1 think of the engineering marvel of the internal combustion engine. How in the hell did they even figure out how to get it engineerd to fire in the sequince as it is doing. even how the timing and firing makes such a big difference.
Again guys thanks
I really hope this time its sorted.
Just 1 question again wats it called if the cars cpu adapts to driving style?

Re: Polo Classic Sensor Problems
I can categorically state that mp9 sure as heck does not learn adaption to driving style.
And that is usually reserved for auto gearboxes not engine ecu's.
Engine ecu will have long term fuel trims but not driving style.

Re: Polo Classic Sensor Problems
Hey guys
seasons greatings to all.
Had a bad 2 weeks hey.
Went down to jhb with the car about 450kms to 500kms. was good on fuel and drving well. untill about 4 or 5 days into the holiday. the car started loosing power again.
Then on the highway near east gate mall it stalled.
got a mechy and lets just say learnt my school fees out of using my wifes brother. we had a tiff and the car was still not right.
car sounded like it had a bearing knock, but another guy we know had a look at it. He then pointed it out to me that the key way of the crank was f*cked and this was messing up the crank pully.
I then had a discution with him and decided to put a 2E long block sub into my car that he had as spare he bought from some1. This just maid sense as replacing my crank with laybour would cost about the same.
I must say that at this stage i am damn unlucky as the 2E was smoking. needless to say he was very angry at the guy that sold him the sub assy as he was told it was rebuilt.
ok so we then reverted back to replacing my crank and leave the 2e.
he then did everything and upon me going to get the car back got a few suprises.
1) Car temp was rising above the middle before fan kicks in . Any1 know why it would suddenly do this? It used to kick in at half on the gauge.
2) after having the car get hot the oil light came on and lifters made a noise.
To remedy number 2 he changed my 3 month old oil pump with a second hand OEM 1 but no luck then he bought a new 1 that he trusts but still no luck.
What can be the problem as he also changed the oil pressure switch ?
He is now opening up the engine again and I was now forced to leave the car in JHB and travel by bus back home in limpopo Will get the car when he gives the ok.
Eish on a side note the Badluck really struck us as i also bought a Opel Corsa 1.3is 1999 model from my uncle.
On the day of picking up the car the back right brakes binded and after i had almost no brakes to speak of. cars temp gauge didnt work and a few other small problems.
I had to give up and give that car back as it was suposed to be the wifes car and with problems i just didnt feel comfortable with
Eish guys hope the sun comes out in my life concerning cars.
Cheers

Re: Polo Classic Sensor Problems
Hi Rourke
I recently bought a polo classic 99" 1.6i and I also have rough idling, bad fuel economy and the car sometime cuts out while driving. I spoke with a friend and he gave me VAG-COM software and also a console cable to connect to my ecu and scan the car for possible issues. So I found 5 errors on the auto scan looking like the following...
VAG-COM Version: Release 311.2-N
Chassis Type: 6N1 - VW Polo
Scan: 01,02,03,15,17,19,25,35,41,45,46,55
Address 01 -------------------------------------------------------
Controller: 7000 RPM
Component: 1.6 MP9.0
Coding: 0261204022
Shop #: 2227355881
5 Faults Found:
00533 - Idle Speed Regulation
09-00 - Adaptation Limit Surpassed
00527 - Intake Manifold Temperature Sensor (G72)
30-10 - Open or Short to B+ - Intermittent
65535 - Internal Control Module Memory Error
00-00 - -
00537 - Lambda (Oxygen Sensor) Regulation
27-00 - Implausible Signal
03840 - Unknown Error Code
01-00 - Signal Shorted to B+
Readiness: N/A
So disconnected all these sensor cleaned them out and put them back and did a rescan. Now I only have error 00533 that keeps coming up, which is refering to the mapping sensor. The mapping sensor I was told effects your idling, injector behaviour and thus effects fuel economy and performance. If your injectors are not working as they should your car will either loose power or have high fuel usage or both and can also lead to the car cutting out while driving. I have ordered a new mapping sensor, but still waiting to receive it. I will let you know if this resolved my problems, which I am sure relates to your problems.

Did you sort out the 00572 error?
