MK1 Chico 1.6 Carb - TCI unit Swap: Grey to Black (Aftermarket)

Post by Nigel Kenesi »

Hi all. I'm in a bit of a pickle.

I have a 2001 Citi Golf (Carburetor) that's been giving me misfiring issues.

The car cuts out when starting her up. So I rev (which is not healthy especially on cold starts) the engine a bit for 10 secs then after she idles with a miss.
It jerks too when slowing down in gear (no brakes applied. But the power is still there, it still pulls nicely in 3rd gear.

I could give the cars entire back story but that'll be too long šŸ˜‚

The mechanic that tried to work on the car tested and saw that no.4 ht lead was not receiving enough spark. So I bought a new ignition coil plus leads, cap and rotor but misfiring still continued. That's when I traced it down to the TCI unit

I would like to know if I can swop my old TCI unit...
Colour: grey
Brand name: Dupec
Model no. : A125-B

....with a Black one I bought from Goldwagen (manufactured by WAG)

My car does have an immobiliser but not immo key, just a push button to start system.
I read on a previous thread from this forum that the TCI units need to be programmed, is this true?

FYI: Both TCI units mentioned above have 7 pins.
I'll drop some pictures as well.

Hope the info I provided is clear enough for someone to advise/assist.

Thanks from Namibia.
