Another E92 325i

This car was recently purchased privately with 135k on the clock and full franchise history.

Customer contacted us to address the the following:
1. Major Service : Air filter , oil Filter, Oil, plugs.
2. Full inspection: he wanted to know everything that needed attention.
3. Idle was lower than normal causing a dip at low revs and a small shudder

So we booked it in for some TLC and got to work




All original parts where supplied


We start out with scanning for stores errors


Then we ran the vanos adaptations and set the idle using the factory software and technical instructions


Now to start with the service:




Old vs new air filter


New plugs


Check the old plugs - 2 NGK and 4 Bosch plugs fitted by agents!!




Used a tiny bit of silicone paste so allow the coils to be refitted easily


Drained oil


Swapped out orings on the OFH


New oil filter fitted


New oil filled


Replaced cabin filter


All done


We also did the full inspection and advised the customer that he would need to address the following :
1. Flush and bleed brakes - brake fluid is old and burnt
2. Flush and bleed power steering - fluid level is low as well fluid is old and burnt.
3. Flush and bleed cooling system - cooling system is full of tap water.

Things like brakes , suspension, prop coupling.ect were all still fine and didn’t need any attention.

This makes me uncomfortable that agents work so k@k considering i parted with enough money to buy a small car with them recently lol

And then they were back for round 2

This time the fluids needed to be flushed and bled.


Get the car up, wheels off and we start.




Drain the radiator


Mixing Distilled water and Coolant




Filled up with Coolant mix


Power steering was so low, it barley showed on the level indicator


So we removed the old fluid, flushed it twice and bled it . Steering felt so much softer after this


Lastly we flush the brake fluid reservoir 3 times and then fill up with new fluid




Flush the brake lines and bleed


And lastly we bleed the ABS pump using the laptop and bmw factory diagnostics


All done, the car was collected and the owner was very happy.

Thanks bud, The adaptations reset the vanos solenoids and the ilde reset procedure sorted out the dip and shudder...

Could you comment on the "tap water" issue? How do you actually notice that there is tap water in the cooling system?
I ask this because I've been motoring for 30 years and have always used tap water to mix my coolant, and provided that the correct ratio was maintained, I've never had any problems with corrosion or premature failure of components.

I dipped a paper towel into the coolant reservoir and when i pulled it out i noticed it had no colour to it.. Coolant from bmw has the Blue Dye and Vw's have the pink dye in it... also the bottle cap was almost seized on and when we got it off, you could see all the chlorine stains... I personally dont use tap water in my own cars, its just habbit, as i have seen so many cars with corrosion and discolored water bottles.ect

The one car i'm busy doing head gasket on now, customer filled water previously... when the gasket blew and the cylinder filled up with water, it corroded the cylinders, water channels.,ect... a simple thing like coolant and distilled water would have stopped this...

Ah, OK, if they only added tap water and no coolant additive, then that's entirely a different story. The previous owner of my Fox also did that, and by the time I got the car, it had caused a lot of rust, and although I did a flush, the head gasket failed soon after (because some of the holes were blocked with rust flakes).

It's no criticism, to the contrary, I'm sure you're sticking to best practice. I was only wondering if the coolant really cares whether you dilute it with distilled or tap water. My coolant remains pink and clear for years, even though I dilute it with tap water.

No worries Mr, i understand and we all learning so dont feel shy... Since i'm working on other peoples vehicles, i have to treat it like my own as to avoid any unnecessary issues... So as i would do for my own, i do for the customers...

Had this car come back over the weekend for the following work:
Front shocks and mounting replacement
Rear brake discs, pads and sensor

The parts that were supplied


Got the car up on the lift and started with the brakes






Cooper Anti seize used


New pads


New brakes fitted


Old parts packed for customer


Removed the front shocks for replacement


Old mount had seen better days


Shocks were finished so the car was riding on the bump stops


Fitted new shocks and mounts


Loaded the old parts in the boot for customer


Ready for collection

So Wayne got in touch with me last week and wanted to come drop of his bosses 325i for some work.

He always sources his parts directly from Delarey and arrived to drop off the car on Saturday morning, along with new front discs , pads , brake sensor , new boot lid struts. the instruction was brakes are squeaky and very annoying please replace it and off he went.

And we start, get it on the lift


Strip the brake discs, pads and bracket.


Cleaned the rust and dust off the hubs.



Also cleaned the pins and lubricated them




Cleaned the contact surfaces of the bracket where the pads sit and slide on.




Cleaned the machine oil off the new discs before installing




Copper anti seize paste on hubs before fitting discs.


Brake caliper piston contact surface cleaned and prepped with copper anti seize




Bracket also cleaned and prepped with anti seize paste


Preparing brake pads with anti squeal spray




Now that everything was cleaned and prepped for install. I also kept an eye out on the awesome rugby World Cup. which made this job take a few hours but no one was complaining .


Once the game ended I continued with the install of the new brakes.
Installed the discs on the prepped hub.








Replaced the sensor as well


All done to perfection




Check and make sure brake fluid level is correct


While I was checking the brake fluid level I saw the engine water drains were blocked with leaves and twigs so I cleaned them out and refit it.






Ran diagnostics and reset the counter for front brakes



Cleared a dsc error



Replaced the boot struts


Loaded the old parts in the boot


And called Wayne to collect.
