VW MIB 2 Radios - Apple Carplay & Android Auto

So from build week 22 (These models have arrived locally in August) all VW's fitted with the Composition Media (That now has a 6.5" display in the Golf and 6.3" on other models) or Discover Pro (8" as previous) now has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard..

Friend of mine is trying to get it to work with no luck, asking VW is like asking a Admin Clerk to do a heart transplant.. so we are thinking VWSA does not know about this and is either not doing PDI properly or his radio needs replacement/firmware..

So anyone want to try and see if it works? Plug your phone into the USB port and it should work.. before that on your Apple device go to Settings > General > CarPlay... not sure of Android..

App connect replaces mirrorlink. I'm not sure if a firmware update will upgrade the radios with mirrorlink to APP connect.

Mirror link is still there, and no.. These are brand new radios with new modules, a firmware update won't give you App Connect.

I have the MIB II unit which only has Mirror link (not working). App connect supports carplay and mirrorlink.

There should be a firmware update next month for these units.

My MIB 2 unit doesnt even show mirror link option. Do you know where one can find the firmware update besides going to the dealer?

You should see app connect when you press the menu button.
Thus far only dealers can do firmware. They updated mine about a month ago.

Which dealer did you go to? Mine hasnt the slightest clue (East Rand VW)

I don't have any menu options in my car for this. What else is available apart from Google Maps and Google Play Music? I guess once Auto is available in SA, I'll ask about firmware.

I haven't had time to play around but did see that it needs an activation code so will chat to Morne about it. The standard setup is pretty good though, integrates via Bluetooth to my wife's phone with ease and is easy to use.

It boggles my mind... the functionality is there..give it to the people. Even with PDI's so much more features can be activated by simply ticking a box.. but alas we are dealing with VWSA.
