Turbo seals - recommendations - Durban area ???

Post by P1LAYA-ZN »

Good day gents,

As I am planning on removing my turbo (k03s) soon to do turbo seals, I would like some recommendations on where to take it ?

Car has been smoking on take off, but seems to be doing it more often now.

Mileage on car is 190000kms.

Also, car is already tuned by Cpi, and would like to know if it were advisable going k04-001 route instead doing turbo seals on my k03s ?

Thanks

Paid R 3k with labour (removing turbo, seals, adding turbo) some time back.

If I were you, go with an RMI accredited workshop as you will get a 12 month warranty hassle-free IIRC.

I'm afraid of the quote I will get from a RMI accredited Workshop. I will get a friend to remove the turbo and replace. I've heard Turbo Exchange can do seals for R1800, but there could be other problems with the turbo other than seals. I'm hoping its just seals.

What quotes have you received so far from an RMI dealer?

+1

I would rather send it to him to sort it out one time.

Didn't get any quotes as yet. Which Audi/Vw RMI dealers would you recommend in Dbn that's good with our cars?

I decided to strip out the intercoller today to check for signs of oil. Luckily, less than 50ml came out, and this was probably never cleaned before either. So, I was thinking , maybe it's not the turbo seals as initially thought.
I then began stripping the PCV pipes and they seemed to be filled up with oil. I replaced the PCV within the rubber T-piece located under the intake manifold. This part was only R55 from Goldwagen. When I fitted everything back and started the car, it smoked initially, but when I took it for a drive, the smoking was noticibly reduced. I suppose this was due to the trace amounts of oil left in the pipes. Let's hope no more oil smoke.

My suggestion. Moer old turbo in bin. Phone masterparts. Buy new ko3s. Reconditiong is fine for trucks and big machinery. ..coz theyre huge...cost mega new. And dont work half as hard as your cars turbo would. I totally dislike recon turbos. Iv only done it myself on custom built turbos. The new units from masterparts are priced well too

Thanks for the suggestions. The smoking has stopped after sorting out the PCV. I guess there was nothing wrong with the Turbo. The mysterious oil leak has also vanished. Who would have thought a R55 part could cause this much trouble. If not for the Forums and the internet, this may well have been a very expensive fix. :type:

Hey guys, I have the same people and it’s working on my last nerve the smoking gotten more with pull off. Reading the comments I see you replaced the pvc pipes, I’ll do the same and see if it stops as others were telling me it’s the pistons.
